PRODUCT STORY
Xavier Clarke and his family have designed the 2023 Dreamtime guernsey, which features a painting on the sash depicting a Wanga dance from the Marri Ammu Tjevin clan of the Moyle river floodplains. The dance tells the story of elders calling out to their ancestors to protect and guide people while on country. The sash represents Xavier’s family’s historical guidance and sanctuary for one another, and the Merrepen leaf that features throughout the design is used to make woven dilly-bags, fishing nets, and other fibre-craft products. The 45 leaves in the design represent each Richmond player on the list, and together they connect to create something strong. The Dugong image, which is depicted outside of the sash, represents Xavier’s Larrakia family’s link to the sea that surrounds his home of Darwin. The guernsey pays homage to the spiritual home of Richmond, Punt Road, where they look out for and protect one another.
